MAPLA 2023 Annual Conference

Sep 21, 2023 - Sep 23, 2023

MAPLA is excited to return to Chicago for our annual conference in September! The conference will take place Thursday, September 21-Saturday, September 23 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown Magnificent Mile.

The MAPLA Planning Committee asks that you make your reservations under our contracted Hotel room block at the host hotel, The Embassy Suites by Hilton Magnificient Mile, 511 N. Columbus Drive, Chicago, IL 60611. MAPLA has a contractual obligation to this Hotel to pick up a specified number of sleeping rooms, and we make every effort to secure the best possible rates for this conference.   The contracted rates are part of a negotiated overall conference package so if you choose to make your reservations outside of our contracted Hotel block, we may fall short of our financial obligation and will be responsible for paying lost income (attrition) to the Hotel.  This ultimately could mean higher room and registration fees in the future.  Please consider this when making your accommodation decisions.  Thank you.

Call for Proposals
Our conference theme, MAPLA 2023 Winds of Change, acknowledges the amount of uncertainty in our profession with test optional proposals, rankings changes, and continued upheaval as a result of the pandemic.

We welcome proposals from both new and veteran pre-law advisors as well as law school representatives! Proposals should reflect the conference theme.

  • Submit your conference proposal in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
    • Proposals may not exceed 800 words
    • Proposals are due May 15, 2023
    • The Conference Programming Committee will make reasonable efforts to make program decisions by June 1.
  • A few things to keep in mind as you develop a proposal:
    • Pre-Law Advising: Nuts and Bolts will be held on Thursday, September 21 for new advisors and those who want a refresher
    • Plenary and concurrent sessions will be held Thursday morning and afternoon, Friday morning and afternoon, and Saturday morning.
    • Conference sessions are typically 60-75 minute sessions, often featuring 2-4 speakers.

If you have an idea, but are not sure how to proceed, please contact Erin at [email protected] and we can offer you advice on how to develop your idea into a proposal!

MAPLA welcomes commercial and not-for-profit exhibitors at the annual conference. Exhibitors will have many opportunities to connect with pre-law advisors and law school admission representatives throughout the 2023 conference in Chicago.

Further details will be posted to our Conference pages as available.
